8th Grade Daily ELA Grammar Warm-ups

Each day, students will tackle three tasks that are designed to enhance their language proficiency and boost their confidence in writing.

✅Task 1 > Sentence Combining

Research has shown that traditional grammar instruction taught in isolation is ineffective in improving student writing. By teaching sentence combining, students can connect the grammar skill to meaningful writing. With sentence combining activities, students will learn to vary sentence patterns to create greater meaning, reader interest, and stylistic flair. The prompts become progressively more complex throughout the year until they are writing their OWN compound and complex sentences perfectly!

✅Task 2 > Test Prep

Prepare your students for success with targeted test prep practice. Each week, students will focus on a specific language or grammar skill, allowing them to master it by the end of the week. From claims and evidence to figurative language and inferences, these activities will strengthen their understanding and application of essential ELA concepts. (see full list below)

✅Task 3 > Quick write

Nurture your students' love for writing through daily quick writes. These short daily picture prompts are designed to build confidence, stamina, and creativity, not to mention the joy of writing. Students eagerly enter the class just to see the picture prompt reveal!

The images are created in AI using a commercial license. I then pull each one into photoshop and edit them (add features, remove items, add text, etc.) The image combines an element of the vocabulary from tasks 1 & 2, so you could challenge your students to see if they spot the connection in the image.
