In this resource, students will dive deep into the key components of argumentative essays. They will "deconstruct" an example student essay to truly understand how each paragraph contributes to the overall structure.

By cutting the sentences and labels into strips, students can work in pairs or groups to put the essay back together in the correct order. This hands-on activity will quickly familiarize them with the essential elements of an argument essay.

As they write their own essays, they can refer to the correct version on display.

{UPDATE! Many teachers have requested this and now it's here! An additional essay is included so you can do this activity twice! I've also included Black & White worksheets for the graphic organizer and sample essays}

Editable slides are also included so you can add more of your own students' essays and practice the activity multiple times until they've truly mastered it. With 53 interactive Google slides and a high-resolution PDF version, you have the flexibility to adapt the lesson to your teaching style.

What you get:

  • 53 Google slides and a High-Resolution PDF version
  • The google slides are INTERACTIVE so students write in boxes
  • The high-resolution PDF can be projected on a screen while students write their answers in their journals or notebooks, facilitating whole-group instruction.
